How To Choose A Timeless Sofa

With so many trends in interior design, it can sometimes be hard to pick pieces of furniture that are timeless which means that you will be spending a lot of money every year refurnishing your home if you want to stay trendy. Although getting new accessories for your home like lamps, pillows, and bedding may be affordable to replace every couple of years, other things in your home like your sofa are a lot more expensive. To help you choose a timeless sofa that will last, there are a few things to look for.

Fabric

One of the most timeless things that you can look for in a couch is one that's durable and can withstand some wear and tear. When you buy a sofa that is made out of a fabric like linen, it may be something that's chic, but it's also going to wear down really quickly; especially if you have kids. Make sure that you choose a fabric in a couch that really durable like leather or a polyester blend; that way when people sit on it and use it all the time, it still looks brand new even if you have had it for several years.

Think Color

A blue velvet couch maybe something that looks fun and unique right now, but is it something that's going to look timeless in several years? When you are choosing a timeless style couch, think of things like the fabric color. Going with a neutral color like grey, cream, tan, or beige is going to make the couch more versatile as styles change. For instance, if pink is in for a few years, you can add pink pillows, and then when it goes out of style, you can just switch to another shade of pillows that matches your couch fabric in a similar way.

Think Shape

Another thing to consider is the shape of the couch. Something that's really unique and modular may only be popular for a few years whereas sofas that have things like rounded arms or that are tufted have a bit of traditional element to them which tend to be a style that will always be popular among interior designers and design enthusiasts.

When you go shopping for a sofa, make sure that you keep these things in mind so that you don't have to go out and buy a new one every couple of years.
